Earlier this August, on the 4th to be exact, a new game called Fall Guys launched on PC and PS4. The game is a new take on battle royale games in an industry that has been flooded with other battle royale games like the very successful Call of Duty: Warzone, PUBG, and Fortnite.

Yet, how is it possible that Fall Guys is such a success regardless of the saturated market? Let’s take a look at the game from a designer’s perspective and how design adds to the success of the game.

The early success of Fall Guys

During the first 24 hours of the game being available, well over 1.5 million players have played the game. That’s quite a lot. So much even that there have been a few server issues along the way.

It is following the same crash course to success as Rocket League did when it first came out. That game exploded when it became available for free on Playstation Plus back in 2015.

If Fall Guys continues along Rocket Leagues’ path, the game will be hosting eSports competitions, world championships, and 1.1 million unique daily players. The first signs are already here with the game trending on Steam and Twitter, Streamers playing the game, and possible collaborations being teased.
