Say hello to the new shotsnapp 👋
New interface. New tools. New experience.
shotsnapp launched to the public on June 28th as a very simple tool to create device mockups. It became #1 Product of the Day on Product Hunt and peaked at #4 on the front page of Hacker News. You can read more about the launch in my previous post:
Since then, I’ve been working on an improved version of the product — packed with tons of improvements and new features. If you’re following me on Twitter, you might have seen some highlights and progress from this thread:
🤔 Why a new version?
The original shotsnapp was good enough for a quick MVP. However, I’ve always believe that it could be so much bigger than what it was. There is a huge advantage of having a simple device mockup tool that can be used by anyone, especially the non-designers in your team — including marketers, developers, managers and more. Check out our use cases page for some examples.
From the data gathered in the feedback form, I’ve chosen to integrate some of the highly requested features into this new version as well. So, lets get right into it.
📝 What’s new?
1. More devices and a new Text object
Other than phones and browsers, I’ve added several new devices including tablets, smartwatches, laptops and monitors. I’m also introducing new object types, starting with Text. It can be used together with other devices to further enhance your mockup images.
Note: Ability to add multiple objects onto a single canvas is only available to shotsnapp PRO members
2. Background image for your canvas
Plain solid colour is too boring? You can now add background image to your canvas. Thanks to Unsplash, we are able to curate the best images for you to use. If that’s not enough, you can also utilise the search feature to find any photos available on Unsplash, right from the shotsnapp interface.
Note: Search feature is only available to shotsnapp PRO members
3. Custom fonts for Text object
With the addition of Text object, there’s also some custom fonts for you to choose. Most of the fonts are from Google Fonts library, so you’re already familiar with them. We are still adding more fonts into the list, so stay tuned for that. Feel free to suggest which fonts to add next!
4. Choose from pre-designed templates
For most people, a blank canvas can be very intimidating. With templates, you’ll be able to find the right starting point for your mockup image. I have bigger things planned for this template feature, so stay tuned for that!

5. Select image format and scale
You can now choose the file format (PNG or JPEG) and scale option (1x, 2x or 3x) of the final image before it is downloaded. Let me know what other options will be useful here.
6. Brand new landing page
Last but not least, we have a new landing page. It’s purpose is to solidify shotsnapp as a brand and a full-fledged product. It is equipped with couple of videos that highlights the main features of the new version.
⭐️ What is this shotsnapp PRO thing ?
Basic functionalities on shotsnapp will remain free forever. However, by upgrading to our brand new shotsnapp PRO membership, you’ll have access to more features that provides you the full experience. To summarise, here’s what you get with a PRO account:
- Add multiple objects onto the canvas. This lets you mix and match different devices and other type of objects to create a complete image.
- Choose from unlimited pre-designed templates from our growing templates library. Soon, you’ll be able to create and save your own templates.
- Search for any photos from Unsplash to be used as your background image — instead of just the curated photos.
- Access to additional device mockup style and variations (i.e clay, vector, perspective etc) Coming soon.
- More advance features in the roadmap!
