I love innovations and solving problems. So I solved one of Instagram’s.

Our dear Instagram

We all adore it, we are addicted to it and we use it every single day for sure. I especially love Instagram for their consistent update and upgrade of their interface, improving their design and simplifying the way of using it. That’s all wonderful.

BUT like everything in life, Instagram as well has a flaw which we are all experiencing at least once a week but we just keep ignoring it and getting use to it in a way. So one day it hit me and I decided to do something about it.

Before I begin I’d like to thank Kim Thuy Tu for her story about Instagram, which gave me motivation to write about my innovation as well and not keep it secret any longer. So thanks Kim, your work is awesome by the way!

The problem:

I bet you double tapped
on the wrong picture of
the wrong person at the wrong time more than once right? It sucks, gets you insane and its embarrassing a little bit as well am I right? The kitty on the left knows what I’m talking about.

Admit it, we all have a crush in our lives. So we usually like to get serious and go deep into their profile and investigate some old pics. But our thumb likes to be a douche bag sometimes and double tap that 55 days old picture, like the kitty up there.

So we know that you can unlike the picture right away no problem, but we also know the hard awful truth about the notification that never gets back from that person’s phone. So what’s the solution?

So, how it works?

I made the concept so simple that it’s almost ridiculous and makes you say “well anyone could’ve thought of that and maybe someone else already did”, but not quite and that’s exactly the beauty of these types of simple but extremely helpful ideas.

The main and only part that takes place in Instagram’s interface is this simple switch which locks and unlocks the option to like(double tap) someone’s picture.

Let me introduce you better to #InstaLikeLock

Before I continue with my “incredible” writing skills, take a look at the following trailer which represents everything about my idea.

Placement of the lock on Instagram’s interface

I decided that it’s best and most practical to be placed in the header right next to the “back” button on the wide pictures preview mode and next to the “camera” button on the home-feed mode.

First reason is because that spot in the app is the closest to the thumb and most comfortable to tap on when it comes to buttons.

Second very important reason is because the header’s position is always fixed. That means whenever you slide up or down, the header stays in place. So that when you leave it/forget it locked and then find a pic you actually want to like, the lock is always visible there on top, instead of searching for it in the settings and lose track of the pic you wanted to like.
