Member-only story

While Figma makes it easy for anyone to stay on top of latest designs, it’s not always intuitive for non-designers to discover all the useful features Figma has.
I’m writing this article after giving a small demo to a few teams at my company and finding out several seemingly obvious (to us designers) things they were not aware of.
This article is for you if you are…
- A product manager, sales representative, analyst, or anyone else that has access to Figma and at times feels lost navigating it. (Note: while this article could be useful to developers in terms of some general things, we won’t be going over specific dev-handoff features).
- A designer that wants to help fellow non-designers and doesn’t know where to start.

Outside a file
Before we dive in, there are two handy things you can do to set up your Figma space:
1. Add projects to Favorites for easy access
“Star” projects you visit the most so that they appear on the left-hand panel. Now you can instantly switch between them without jumping back to the Team space:

2. Set file sort to keep files in the same order
Default file sort in Figma project is by “Last modified”. This can sometimes get confusing, especially if you get used to the order of files inside the project only to come back later and see that everything has been reshuffled. Fortunately though, you can change sorting to “Alphabetical” or “Date created” if you want to make sure files always remain in the same order.
Of course, if you would rather have an easy way to stay aware of the latest changes, then it makes sense to keep the “Last modified” sort.
