If you don’t understand the medium you’re designing for, you’re an artist, not a designer.

I think many artists would disagree.
If you don’t have an understanding of the medium you’re designing for, you’re probably neither an artist or a designer.

I totally agree with you. As a frontend developer and webdesigner myself, I really don’t like working with “webdesigners” who don’t know anything about the code. The unnecessary workarounds to create things which are possible but take a lot of time…
