Career levels for user interface designers
To know where and what to start UI Design career.

I structured the Knowledge and Expertise of a User Interface Designer base on levels of creativity. To catch up on this story better, please read my previous article: 5 levels of creativity.
To be able to design a complete product, UI Designer also needs to coordinate with UX Designer. But because the nature of the two positions is quite different, so in this article, I will only share the knowledge around UI Designer, hoping to provide useful information for those interested in this sector.
Firstly, it will be a huge advantage for those who have a Graphic Designer background when becoming a UI Designer. Since the same primary concern is graphics and aesthetics, these two areas can use the same background knowledge.

However, over the past 9 years, I have also seen many friends from other industries suddenly change their career paths and get particular successes. Therefore, if you have acquired enough professional knowledge and feel interested in this job, let’s confidently pursue your goal.
Level 0: The Beginner
To start learning anything, we should start from 101 — all the basic principles and concepts of User Interface Design, such as:
- What is User Interface — to understand what we are doing
- Types of User Interface — 3 main types: Graphical user interfaces (GUIs), Voice-controlled interfaces (VUIs), and Gesture-based interfaces.
- User Interface Elements — 4 categories: Input Controls, Navigational Components, Informational Components, and Containers.
